Day 2 commenced with an afternoon session which YEM’s President, Prince, referred to as “A Date with the Great”. Our date was with Dr. Frank Ofosu-Appiah, who through a panel discussion, expounded on what it means to be ‘Built to Last”. He explained that as leaders it is important to understand that life doesn’t just happen. Indeed, there will be occasions where the actions and decisions of others affect us. However, God uses those trails to produce leaders.

“We walk with destiny. This means that God placed us on this Earth with a purpose. And until you know who you are, everybody will try to define you! Therefore, if you want to ‘Build to Last’, here are some key gems to obtain.”

A few gems from Dr. Frank:

  1. Initiative is a must have! Don’t rely on the motivation of others! You must be self-motivated! You ought to have the strength to get up and keep going!
  2. Knowledge is not only found in the four walls of a classroom. Read, Get exposure and Learn.
  3. Humble yourself! The day you begin to believe in your own advancements, is the day you walk with destruction.
  4. Discipline is a decision! It is a gift that only you can grant to yourself. Don’t be afraid to put your emotions in check.
  5. Speed is not the essence, CONSISTENCY is! A lot of people can grow fast but not strong! Don’t rush! Pace yourself!
  6. Not every test is from the devil! There will be moments that come not to harm you but to refine you.
