A young rich man once lived in a house with many rooms. One day, God knocked on his door and asked to stay with him. The man offered God what he believed to be the “best” room in the house. Everyday, the devil would show up and wrestle with the young man and he would then complain to God, but God expressed that the man only gave Him one room, and as such He had no business with any other room in the house. This continued until he decided to give God EVERY room, making God the MASTER of the house. One morning, there was another knock. The young man, awakened by the knock, thought to himself, “it must be the devil again”. However, before he could get up to go see who it was, he heard footsteps heading towards the front door. He peeked through his door and saw God opening the front door and indeed it was the devil. Surprised to see God standing at the other side of the door, the devil exclaimed “oh no, I’m in the wrong house…I must have lost my way!”.

To surrender is to yield power or control to a higher authority. The above is a simple but yet profound story from a man of God about the importance of surrendering to God.

Surrendering to God isn’t easy. It takes trust, courage, and denial of self to give our all to Him.

It is vital for us to yield and submit our ALL to God. Without doing so, who are we really serving? Is God truly the Lord and Master of our lives? Or have we made a person, place, or thing our idol?

Some of us, like the rich man, only give God control over certain areas of our lives while other areas are a “no-go”. However, God is a gentleman. He’s given us free will and until we choose to surrender our all to Him—because we love and desire Him— He will not impose His will on us!!
How do we remain fully surrendered?

We invite God to dwell inside the many rooms of our hearts through Prayer. Prayer is an integral part of remaining fully surrendered to God. In prayer, we let God know we can do nothing on our own and invite Him to have His way in our lives, thus we exchange our weaknesses for His strength daily. When we are fully surrendered, we humble ourselves in prayer and ask for God’s will to be done. Through prayer, we find out what God wants us to do in certain situations, concerning specific needs, and how to access resources because when we surrender our ALL to him, He leads and directs us. (Proverbs 3:6)

Life can be difficult and challenging sometimes but surrendering to God causes the “impossibles” of life to become our reality!

“And they thirsted not when He led them through the deserts; He caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them; He split the rock also, and the waters gushed out.” (Isaiah 48:21)

When we yield to God, He leads us, makes provision and fights our battles!
