“Prayer is transferable and prayer is transformational. The way that you access multiplication is through prayer, because prayer changes everything.” – Pastor Matthew K. Thompson
At YEM’s Summer Program, I witnessed this statement come to life. Although many often overlook or don’t fully engage with the opening prayer, on Saturday night, as Sis. Doyin led us through an incredibly powerful prayer, there was a moment when I felt tears welling up in my eyes as I sensed God reaching into the depths of my heart, touching and unlocking areas that I had been trying to keep hidden and guarded. During worship, I remember feeling tears slowly trickling down my cheeks as I tried to keep my composure. One of the songs that were ministered included the lyrics, “I bless You, Lord, You Are Holy and Forever You Are God.” These words made me pause and reflect on the goodness and faithfulness of God. I reflected on my life, realizing that regardless of the circumstances, God remained constant. He is always holy and forever the God of creation.
Sunday night multiplied what had already been a great experience. I found myself joining the group of people who were responding to an altar call. Our guest speaker, Pastor Matthew K. Thompson, prior to preaching, called for those “waiting for a miracle” to come forward. I hesitated at first but eventually decided to join them. As I stood at the back of the pack, Ps. Thompson emphasized the power of prayer to bring about change, saying, “God is not afraid of your truth! He seeks worshippers who will worship in Spirit and truth.” I began to pour out my genuine feelings to God, and couldn’t hold back my emotions.
Sunday night, the highlight of the conference for me, undoubtedly provided a safe space to confront my hidden pain, a moment that produced an overwhelming sense of relief. As Christians, we often keep up with an image of a perfect life. But Sunday’s experience reiterated that it’s okay to not be okay. However, there is significance in sharing our honest and innermost feelings with God through prayer – a powerful weapon, even as we seek for the next big thing (multiplication). We shouldn’t let our emotions lead to doubt because doubt can lead to setbacks instead of progress. However, through consistent prayer we’re able to unload our emotions, access and unlock God’s promise of multiplication in our lives. Summer Conference 2024 was one for the books!
